I've reached the infamous glitch that freezes up the game when you try to enter Towers 11 and 12. I've tried these to no avail:
-Entering Tower 12 and then warping to Tower 11.
-Going to a random tower (1-10) and then going to Tower 12
-Getting meat from a random tower (1-10), letting it spoil, and going to Tower 12 (this worked once, but then it stopped)
I've heard an idea that you need to feed Elena some meat, sleep, activate a cutscene with her, and then try to access the towers. But when I sleep til 7am, it doesn't activate the breakfast cutscene. Any ideas on other workarounds or why I'm not activating these cutscenes? And maybe suggestions for other cutscenes I can activate to bypass the glitch?

I own this game, but I haven't played it yet... and this is the first time I've heard of this glitch. Is this a fairly common problem, or a really rare incidence you simply had the misfortune of having? Is there a known trigger for this glitch?

Sounds like a terrible glitch. Hope your game isn't broken.

Not a lot is known about the glitch, but a lot of people speculate that it's present on all NTSC copies, though most players have managed to avoid it.
Here's what I understand: you can enter the towers normally the first time. But if you return to the hub to manage items/sleep/etc, and then try to go back out, you'll have problems. There are simple workarounds, like going from the hub to a random tower, then going straight from that tower to 11/12, or carrying spoiled flesh into the tower... these worked for me, but only once. Which seems to imply that the glitch adapts to every workaround at one point another. I've tried just about everything, but I'm hoping that it hasn't completely locked me out. I've also sent a message to XSEED, and I'm waiting to hear from them.
For anybody who reads this thread and wants to know the best way to avoid it: save BEFORE you enter those towers for the FIRST TIME and copy it into another slot. If you have difficulty learning map layout like I do, just use a walkthrough so you can get through them in one go. If the glitch shows up, load the file from before you entered the towers and try again.

So I take it when you encounter the glitch, it simply freezes the game entirely? If that's the case, at least it will be simple to know if I encounter it. Thanks for the tip on using multiple save slots for this game, I'll keep that in mind.

The good news is I managed to get past it and finish the game! The bad news is I have no clue what contributed to it, so I'll just list exactly what I did here:
I went to sleep and didn't use the console for about 12 hours. I loaded a copied file, then had Aeron sleep until 7 (to try and trigger a cutscene with Elena). I spoke to her 4 times--no cutscene. But I still decided to try to access the tower anyway. I left the Observatory and walked all the way to the edge of the cliff from which you access the towers. Then I selected Tower 12, it activated a cutscene of Elena saying goodbye (which has frozen in the past) and I skipped the cutscene. Then, for some reason, it worked.
Thing is, I'm pretty sure I've done this exact sequence before, to no avail (other than a few things that seem insignificant, like how many times I spoke to her or how far I walked down the cliff). Current theories:
-Leaving the console off for half a day might have had some sort of effect
-The glitch changes over time, only blocking certain methods of entry while leaving others open
-After the first time you enter, it becomes a matter of chance and the more times you try to access it, the lower your probability of getting through (and I just happened to get lucky)

Gods, that glitch... didn't help that I had re-enter that stupid tower like seven times. Some things I was able to do (success would usually be at a 70% average):
~ Activate a full-on cutscene with Elena (be it breakfast or some other conversation), then immediately leave. No saving or anything. Didn't work a couple times (with the full garden cutscene mainly)
~ Take your save file, then copy it in an EMPTY slot. Load the copied file and immediately leave.
