I remember someone made a topic like this last year, so why not do it again now that half the world is already in 2015? Basically just list any resolutions you have for your gaming--and feel free to list any other resolutions too!

I don't want to set any super lofty goals for 2015, because I always flop on them, but I really want to spend this year expanding my speedrun experience and maybe develop one or two short, simple games. Hopefully bridge the divide I'm experiencing between my writing and my gaming hobbies. And of course, cut deeper into my backlog: buy less, play more.

My big non-gaming resolution is to pick up a part time job so I can start saving up money to live on my own.

What about everybody else? What are your goals for 2015?

BONUS ROUND: Reflection Time

https://howlongtobeat.com/forum.php?&thread=481&page=1

^This link directs to last year's resolution forum. Me, 1 year ago: "Personally I'm not making any major resolutions. I'm going to try to play some more retro games and stay on top of new releases better than I did last year (so I don't end up scrambling to beat them all to make a year-end list like I did this year). But other than that, I'm comfortable where I am in my gaming spectrum right now. If anything I'll probably take more time off from gaming to read and write more."

I'd say I stayed pretty close to my goals, at least for the first half of the year. From August onward I really dropped the ball on my completion quota, but I did get to read and write more like I said. How did everybody else do in 2014?

Well I failed terribly at my goal of the last year gaming wise. I barely finished this year.

Video games while I played a good amount still, got put on the back burner for other table top games. I picked up MTG this past year and have really been digging into that. I Have continued with my normal Dungeons and Dragons playing as well.

This year I want to resist sales more than I am known to do (so far this current winter sale I am doing well). THus allowing me to fully enjoy the games I do have and work on my backlog.

Going to to Magic the Gathering, though not a video game its still a game! =P I want to attend atleast 1 GP and 2-3 opens this year to get more tournament experience under my belt outside of the local game stores.

For DUngeons and Dragons, I want to complete the world creation I have dabbled in, and have lots of ideas for. I am working on writing the lore for this world from the ground up and using the 2 groups I DM for to shape the world and history of it, I thins can be fantastic!

Personal goals, I fell off of my weightloss bandwagon over the summer, and need to get back to working out. Stopped when I had an issue with my foot and never got back into it.

Well, last year was this: https://howlongtobeat.com/forum.php?thread=481&page=1#post9309

Somewhat perplexingly, I managed to improve my ratio by about 10 percentage points to the high 30s, even though the number of games I played in the second half of the year (both completed and retired) dropped off to nearly nothing, both for health reasons and MMO-related reasons, which is funny considering last year's post.

I think I'll stick with nothing too ambitious and go with the same theme of trying to not get any further behind, and maybe even making some progress. If the health stuff gets sorted out better (woo lots of tests coming up this month), hopefully I can get back to my old habits with more quirky, weird stuff I don't have the energy to track down or the attention span to make sense out of at the moment.

I'll probably just aim to beat more games than I did this year, but it will be difficult to do. I beat more games in 2014 than I have in any other year by far.

Mine is to 'Play less, but play more'... Which, on the face of it, doesn't make much sense!

My aim is to not worry so much about beating more games, but playing more of the game, experiencing it more. Not just to get my money's worth, but to make the most of what they offer. For example, my recent restart of Assassins Creed Black Flag, which originally I was just going to stream through playing the main story only, has led me to see that there can be so much more to enjoy than just trying to complete a game to tick it off my list.

But I am also hoping to spend less of my spare time playing games and being more creative, though I'm not going to push that agenda too hard if I'm feeling happy consuming other people's creativity :)

Hope your health stuff sorts itself out nalgas! I too have health issues that affect my gaming, some that mean I have more spare time on my hands and less energy to do other stuff so end up doing more gaming, but some that mean I really shouldn't be gaming too much!

Looking back at my resolutions last year (bloody hell, doesn't time fly?) https://howlongtobeat.com/forum.php?thread=481&page=1#post9210

I can see that I've achieved a certain amount of what I set myself... Although I can't say I chilled out about it all that much, I did end up streamlining things by giving away some of my digital accounts (Humble, Uplay and Origin) and have mostly been playing stuff just on PS3 of late... Getting a PS4 is on hold as I still have a dozen games to play on the old system, and a broken car to get fixed... Giving away my Steam account is probably a step too far, as I have too many great games both played and unplayed, though I managed to avoid any recent sale splurges, only buying Alien: Isolation and winning a few adventure games in the pre-sale auctions.

I also finally laid Skyrim to rest. I did start another character from scratch a few months after but put that on hold pretty quickly... Too many other games I've not played yet demanding my attention!

I did okay in 2014, though there were a few months where I didn't finish anything (I was feeling kinda depressed during that time). Anyways my resolution for 2015 is simply to beat more games than I did in 2014 and also to tackle all the big RPGs that I have. And as for non gaming resolutions I'll try to finally finish a game that I've been planning to make for a while now, and also improve my writing and drawing skills.

Yeah I want to play more indie games too. But first I want to finish Saints Row 4 and GTA 5. I also want to play Ni No Kuni. I'm terrible at actually finishing games.

Non gaming resolutions:
I want to stress less, and I want to get back into exercising regularly (but after winter, I need the insulation right now :P ).

I'll be graduating in about 6 months time, so I really want to savour the time I have left with all my friends still in the same city.

If/When you start it up make sure you post about it on here; I for one would be interested in reading your thoughts!

Back on topic, my resolution last year was: To spend less time on iOS gaming. My DS and PSP backlogs are massive, but I often waste loads of time on shitty apps that I don't even get that much enjoyment from. Also, to try and clear those backlogs completely (I've promised myself that I won't buy a 3DS or Vita until those are cleared...) I've been somewhat successful, as I've barely touched iOS/mobile gaming in the past 6 months, and made a lot of progress with my handheld backlogs.

The challenge this year is balancing my ongoing aim of clearing my DS and PSP backlogs with the mobile games I still want to play, and my newly-acquired steam account. So my resolution is two-fold:
-To completely clear my backlog of DS games (EDIT: There are 31 DS games in this backlog, incl. a couple of replays) (and to try and clear some more of my PSP backlog too)
-To buy no more than one new game per month, so that I have a decent stab at cutting my overall backlog down

My non-gaming resolutions are two-fold as well. The first is to keep on top of my university work, and be better organised than I was last year. The second is to get back on track with my health goals (I'm hardly obese, but am undoubtedly larger and less muscular than I'd like to be). I made really good progress at the start of last year, but a broken bone over the summer (which is still not right yet) proved to be a major setback, and I'm probably in worse shape now than I was last year. I am adamant that next year, I will be in significantly better shape than I am right now.

Good luck to you all with your goals, let's make 2015 our best year yet!!

Well I definitely did not reach my goals last year. So this year I think I'm going to try different style of goals.
1. Get 2 new systems and complete at least 10 games on each console.
2. Complete 52 games at least
3. Stop blazing through stories and actually play some side stuff.
4. Reach Gold in League of Legends

Simple yet somewhat challenging goals. I just need to save some cash to get the consoles but don't really have an idea of what consoles I want yet.

I just want to say, Ni no Kuni is so good. So, so good.

Anyway, my resolution is a simple "play more games." My backlog has now entered the quadruple digits. o_o; Also to exercise, but thus far that's going nowhere.

It's on my backlog too after I got it dirt cheap as digital download in a PSN sale, but it might be a while before I get round to it as I want to finish all my PS3 disk based games first. I am really looking forward to it - I love Studio Ghibli.

Currently I mainly play on Xbox 360 and Xbox One and sometimes PC. My PC isn't very good so I just use it for League of Legends. I'm thinking maybe a PS2 and I have a NES but it doesn't have a power cord. I just need to order one. My issues is finding places that sell older games because in my area there aren't any shops that sell them.

First off, welcome to the site! :)

I can be quite bad for doing that as well - I remember I had to restart FF XII: Revenant Wings three times because I lost track of where I was and what I was meant to be doing...

Last year I said "play less, backlog be damned!" I had trimmed my backlog from 70 to 62 days last year. This year I had it down to 47, now 57 thanks to Steam's recent sale. I definitely played less though; I just retired more.

My goal this year is to get my backlog down to...30 days. That's right. Cut that mess in HALF.

First, though, I will have to quit playing Hearthstone so much...which is currently running...and I'm listening to its theme jingle on my headphones...I dream about it...I wake up humming it...Help!

I need to finish more games. I currently need to finish Skyward Sword, Assassins Creed IV & Liberation, Far Cry 4, Pokémon Heart Gold, Amnesia & a couple of others. I'm not buying anything until half of those is done.

My main resolution is to expand what I play to include non-PC games, both emulated and on actual hardware. Secondarily, I'd like to play more games made before 2000, specifically games released for NES and SNES. The more I play the more I realize from not having played the classics, I miss a lot of reference points to this crucial time in gaming history.
