Like a really pretty looking cupcake full of tiny sharp tacks. Every new aspect of gameplay just added more frustration. Each new area was just more obnoxiously designed than the previous. Horrible. It does look fantastic though.Updated 1.5 Weeks Ago

Finished on series X.it’s a good game but has flaws that really hurtled the experience.
A classic souls type of a game with nothing new apart from the two worlds mechanics…
Combat works but nothing special.
Visuals are good and there’s some cool scenery.
Music and sound design is good.
Bosses, that very important in this type of game, were kind of forgettable and nothing special. Final boss was terrible.
Also finishing the game with a simple text on black screen is hugely disappointing.
Problems are:
- massive technical flaws like stuttering all the time, inconsistent framerate, pop in…
- game design has flaws, with excessive enemies on environments, making some exploration a bit annoying
- lack of enemy variety with reused bosses
Overall a average game.
good for massive souls like fans but with many flaws that really hurt the experience.

What a rough ass souls like game. Everything screams mediocre or even subpar.Straight out of the gate the jumping sucks monkeys balls. The vertical lift off is as high as an obese chick jumping off a couch, and the horizontal travel distance is not much better, but they do love including some jumping sequences on rotating platforms and whatnot.
The umbral mechanic is part neat and part absolutely ass. What makes it ass is that it's a pretty integral part of the game, where you have to enter it to open umbral gates in order to progress. But besides that you will want to spend most of your time in here because most secrets are hidden behind some umbral walls and down some hidden pathways. Doesn't sound too bad right? Absolutely wrong. Umbral space is the most annoying and frustrating gameplay part because of how many enemies there are. They are constantly spawning every few meters and will swarm and push you aside. The exp multiplier doesn't make sense where it stays at 1.10x souls multipier for a couple of minutes and then jumps to 2x and 3x in like half a minute. And guess what, at 3x multiplier a stupid ass red reaper will come out which basically means that you have to die, because at low levels you have little chance of defeating him, or will spend like 10 minutes chipping at him. What I did like is that it's like a second life, where as you die in the real world, you transition to umbral and paired with the 8 second invulnerability eye socket, it basically will carry you through boss fights.
Some bosses straight up don't have a close respawn point, which is infuriating in these DS type games and just in general the vestiges and those flower spawn points are spaced out by a drunk half asleep old man with 1 hand. Sometimes you have flower beds 20 seconds apart with no bosses in between, and sometimes you don't have a flower bed for 10-20 minutes.
I got stuck on terrain multiple times, floating in mid air while hugging some wall or ledge. Most of the time it's not a problem, but it's really annoying when visually there's like a 20 cm high railing, but you can't jump over it, because of the level design. Speaking about level design, it's pretty mediocre at best. You have shortcuts that you unlock and what not but they're mostly nonsensical and are just there to open a pathway back which you will never use after finishing the map, excluding a couple of shortcuts centered around Skyrest.
Then it does the cardinal sin of dark souls games by pairing up multiple bosses together, like the 3 bringers of death, while each on their own they're not too difficult, but all 3 of them as the same time and it becomes a clown fiesta. This only happens a few times, so it's not that annoying, but it's there.
The quest system is total ass as per dark souls fashion, but here it's multiplied by a factor of 10. It's easier than ever to completely botch or miss some questlines by unlocking new areas via elevators or gates, because NPCs despawn immediately after entering zones, and usually the elevators are spaced out in such a way that you will use them just to check what's beyond. For example Winterberry who just despawned after reaching Upper Calrath, or tortured prisoner, who is actually the queen of this world, who attacks you since you didn't give her a quest item before killing the final boss. And the quest item is positioned like 1 minute away from the final boss.
Graphically the game is lacking. The overall aesthetic is great, very dark fantasy. The umbral world looks spooky and awesome with all the corpses and mummified monsters and weird sound effects. But textures are grainy and look low res, the animations are sort of stiff and jiterry, there are texture pop ins during cutscenes (it was especially bad during the final Adyr cutscene). A lot of enemies are copy pasted, especially if you spend a lot of time in the Umbral plane, you will basically see the same 3 mobs for the whole game. Armor and weapon designs look neat though.
So yeah, main difficulty was traversing the world and trying to get through the mobs and environment. The only bosses that I had to try a couple of times, was Pieta, the Progeny boss and the Saint. Mainly because these are early game bosses and your build sucks ass.
If you're really itching for a souls game, maybe you'll like this one, but can't recommend it for most of people.

Fantastic environmental design. The style is absolutely stunning and the enemies and bosses are well detailed. I loved the visuals of the weapons and armor sets, and the amount of them. You can feel there was a lot of love put into this game, but unfortunately the devs seem to be lacking enough understanding of what makes this genre compelling to make it all work together. I feel like they're good people, and committed to the game. There's a lot of hidden details, secrets, and mechanics that you probably won't find on your own, but there's beauty in that, it's part of the magic of the genre. The exploration is one of the best (and most rewarding) I've seen in a game of this type.
That being said, the difficulty is one MAJOR problem with this game. From around 30%-40% completion onward, my character became so powerful that it trivialized most of the content of the game. The bosses are waaaaaaaay, waaaaaaaay too easy to be memorable. And it's such a shame too, because, again, their visual design is stunning. I'm also not a huge fan of reusing minibosses as normal mobs afterwards, I feel like it takes away from the initial battle and I find myself thinking: damn so I'm going to be fighting more of those from now on, instead of savouring the battle at hand knowing it's unique. But I get it, if not for that, the enemy variety would be ridiculously low.
I really felt terrible doing all the bosses on my 1st or 2nd try (yes, even the last 2-3 bosses). I never used companions and my build wasn't even minmaxed, I just wear whatever and level up strength for bigger bonk and the bosses died in like 10 hits or less. By the end, I wasn't even focused when fighting them cuz I knew there wasn't any risk involved (even if I didn't dodge/parry most of the attacks they weren't that dangerous for the most part). The difficulty of the levels was a bit better, but I think I'd rather fight much less enemies but stronger and more interesting ones, than tens of trash mobs every 20 seconds.
I really hope this game does well enough to warrant more, I feel like if the devs learnt from their mistakes they could make a huge banger of a game next time. Good luck!

Lords of the Fallen is very close to being good, but is brought down by a lot of different flaws. I like the Umbral World a lot and what it brings to the game. The gameplay is alright, but has a few problems. The dodging moves you too far which makes the combat more clunky. There are way too many enemies in the game. I think the game would be much better if you removed atleast half of all enemies in the game, which says a lot.
There are a few cool and interesting bossfights, but most bosses are too easy. The developers also love reusing bossfights as regular enemies. Sometimes it feels like you defeat a boss, exit the boss room and walk 10 steps and see the boss as a normal enemy. This removes a lot of uniqueness from the boss designs.
I am sure if I were to replay the game after all of the fixes they've done, I'd enjoy it more.

Overall loved the cool mechanics relating to umbral, co-op was buggy (especially) early after release but has improved since while always good in solo, cutscenes were still a little jank sometimes like the delayed texture pop-in and abruptness of some transitions, Radiant ending was very underwhelming and anti-climatic. Would not recommend co-op since only host gets key progression and healing upgrade items despite seamless session play.Updated 4 Months Ago

Well... this game could've been worse. But overall the game had lots of potential and ruined it. There are lots of aspects that I like, such as the atmosphere, the music, and the lantern. However, this game is a total mess and is basically Dark Souls II slander made into a game. All the exaggerated DS2 stereotypes are clustered into this game with large ganks, ambushes, clunky and janky combat, and reuses of enemies. Like there are probably only 10 variants of enemies throughout the entire game, the rest are reused mini bosses to fill the void. At least the world map levels were fun to explore. Got the ending and I don't think I want more. The experience was very frustrating than fun. Not saying I don't recommend the game, its just not for me.Updated 6 Months Ago

An attempt at a fresh reboot of the 2014 flop, the new Lords of the Fallen falls just flat of earning a spot in the souls like pantheon of greatness. Rampant balancing issues, sometimes clunky combat, gank squads galore, and weak boss battles make the reboot of LOTF more of a chore than an epic quest. More gaming reviews here!

Before this I was a soulslike noob, 77 hours with some side quests to complete the game (single run, no ng+). Was trying to scan each area completely.Series X - major performance issues here, fps drops as a main issue. Beside of that the game has a great climat and graphics and the devs are taking care of it. Not too hard, did major ammount of bosses at first attempt without any help. But there are a few that will give you haaard time...

I'll give this game an 8.0. It surprised me a lot, not just because of reviews that said the performance was not good in all plataforms, but with several updates the game is AWESOME. All areas are wonderful. The feeling of bloodborne is in this game, this is the closest the devs get to a bloodborne. I'll put a list of pros and cons of this game:
Pros:
• Several classes and misc builds possible in just one character.
• OST is Awesome
• Pieta's Sword.
• Two worlds of exploration (it can be as cons too cuz u can loss a lot of items by not paying attention)
Cons:
• low variability of enemies
• Don't know if was about the feedback of the comunity, but the game feels easy at some point after some patches.
• Souls/Vigor farm unexistent and frustrating even droping some vigor skulls
It's a great game, will entertain you for a long time. Don't know if it's worth full price. But if it's in summer sale/ holidays sales it's totally worth.

This game is so close to Souls greatness you can taste it but this team clearly bit off more than they could chew. LotF offers every mechanic from Dark Souls, a massive FS-sized campaign, and a major addition with the dark world. Most souls-likes focus on one or two areas (e.g. Lies of P just has really good combat) but LotF tries to do everything and falters as a result. There’s an amazing game hidden in here but everything it does right has an associated downside. There’s also a truckload of bugs but even if these are addressed, some of the underlying game design is too flawed for this to ever be amazing.- The level design here is phenomenal both at a micro and macro level, with a large amount of interconnectivity, channeling DS1. This world design is FS quality and I say that as a level design snob! Unfortunately, you have warping from the start so many of the level-connecting shortcuts feel pointless. That said, the sheer amount of optional paths to explore trounces every non-FS game, this map is sprawling and impressive. At one point I had 4 different levels I could play next! The glaring downside here is that there aren’t enough enemy types for a game this massive. It usually feels like you’re fighting the same 10 enemies in every area with one or two swapped out, easily one of the largest problems
- The dark world is the most interesting thing about this game but it has some downsides. It’s basically “hard mode” with extra enemies and a horror-lovecraft vibe, like Bloodborne meets Metroid Prime 2. I like the hard mode idea but I really dislike the respawning enemies. This adds so much tedium, spawning the same easy zombies over and over, compounding the enemy-variety problem. You’re also up against the clock, with a grim reaper dude eventually showing up to one-shot you. Add to this that entering the dark world does chip damage, estus is nerfed, return statues can only be used once, and don’t get me started on their mimics... TLDR the dark world is overkill. There are lots of items and paths that are exclusive to the dark world so completionists are going to spend 50%+ in the dark world. Simply adding extra tougher enemies without the respawning and extra punishments would have been better
- Combat - the RPG depth here is impressive. The amount of weapons, magic, build variety, etc is on par with FS so if you’re the kind of person that replays with different builds, you’re going to dig this. Unfortunately, the combat is slightly off in spots. Everything’s a bit too fast and slippery, I don’t like that jump is the interact button, parrying shouldn’t do rally damage, estus heals too much but not enough charges, etc. There are some gnarly bugs too. My dodge often went in the wrong direction and my item kept changing for no reason (PS5 bug I think). This game’s parry/rally mechanics are suspiciously similar to Lies of P and I do like it but all of it feels worse than LoP. There are a lot of bosses but very few stand out.
- The difficulty mainly comes from getting ganked by 5 dudes rather than challenging enemies or interesting placement. They love to make you fight a tank while an archer is sniping you from 50 feet away. The roll is insanely effective and enemies are easy to read so 1-on-1's are rarely difficult, including bosses. Most of the bosses are way too easy but when they are hard, it’s because of a cheap attack, gimmick, or an excessive amount of “wait it out” sections. The light reaper has all 3! There’s a lot of platforming too and they hit you with their Blightown pretty early FYI
- Projectiles are amazing and basically use a bar that comes back at bonfires instead of finite items. This is the best projectile system in any souls game, I’ve always wished BB worked like this. Unfortunately, projectile enemies are massively overpowered and are a nightmare to deal with
- There are bonfires but you can also place an extra temporary bonfire by using a limited item. This is a really cool idea but doesn’t have the impact it should, since it’s always feasible to beat an area without them. I rarely used them because they’re limited and made the experience more painful than it needed to be. I feel they should have removed bonfires entirely and let you place EVERY bonfire where you wanted. NG+ kind of works like this but you’re limited to the 1 temp bonfire
The level design is seriously impressive and the main reason to play this, with a large quantity of areas, great level design, an interesting but flawed dark world, and even more interconnectivity than DS1. The combat is good and offers a ton of build variety but has a lot rough edges and bugs. Unfortunately, they just bit off more than they could chew. The lack of enemy variety, respawning dark world enemies, and poor balancing tarnish what should be a souls classic. This really needs a Scholar-of-the-First-Sin style refresh as most of these problems aren’t fixable with a patch…

I am so mad that this game is so frustrating to play because I want to explore the world so badly, and I love the environmental design. But unfortunately, the level design, the amount of enemies, and the feeling of constantly being underpowered is just not fun. Pros:
-The two world mechanic is really interesting
- The first 2-3 areas of the game are so much fun to explore and do
- Oh my god the atmosphere and detail is incredible. Straight up I cannot express enough how cool everything looks (except the mine areas, they can suck it)
- The enemies are interesting
- The two or three boss fights I did were really fun. They didn't do that Elden Ring thing of constant fake-out attack bosses which I didn't realise how much I missed
- One of the best parry mechanics since Sekiro
- I love the idea behind the checkpoint mechanic, although it's usefulness sometimes could be debated
Cons:
- The umbral realm just spamming enemies that portal in at you like crazy, I legitimately go so tired of just constant enemies all the time. Never any time to focus on your surroundings or admire the scenery, which sucks because it looks INCREDIBLE.
- It honestly feels like a DMC game sometimes, so many enemy encounters are just mobs, sometimes with randomly high health and it's somehow frustrating AND boring at the same time
- Around the platforming area it just starts introducing insta-kill things, and it really wears thin. So many dudes hiding around to push you off, things that will jump you if you grab a shiny and kill you instantly, rooms full of enemies that mob you. Just the worst
- Ranged enemies are too numerous and too frustrating, projectiles going through walls to hit you is CRAZY
- While I do like the two worlds mechanic, being forced into the second world to cross necessary bridges and stuff but then ALSO having a time limit before you basically insta-die seems like a weird design choice. It's stressful enough man, I don't need to be chased by the Grim Reaper because I went to get food
- Going back and forth between worlds quickly becomes tedious. "Oh, another large gap where I am FORCED to go into the umbral realm, okay" "Oh, now it wants me to go back. Okay" I really, really do like the idea of this system but I think it's way too forced, constant, and there are minimal benefits for you, as a character, to go to the umbral realm other than to make a bridge.
- The menu system legitimately sucks, it looks awful, like on a DS emulator where the inventory screen is all small but then all your stats are blown up by 500%
