It starts today? I though it was only at 21st of December

Yeah very good chance it starts today (indicated by the daily only lasting for 24hrs (they now typically last 48hrs)) plus the sale usually lasts for 2 weeks and ends on 1st of the new year.
so steamsalehype.get()

Just be sure you wait for things to come on flash/daily/community choice don't get things that are just on sale.

As always, also check before buying that it's not cheaper somewhere else. Amazon in particular is being aggressive as usual and running a competing sale simultaneously (see here, and be prepared to do either a lot of scrolling through the third/fourth posts to read a ton of crap, or bust out the good old ctrl/cmd-f and save yourself ten minutes), and things have started popping up on GMG already too (e.g. Arkham Origins is 20% cheaper there than on Steam, even though they don't seem to be quite into full-on sale mode).

Enhanced steam is a great addon for the steam page if you don't feel like going through bunch of different websites to see which one has it for the lowest price.
For an example, the current community's choice, Alice: Madness returns;

As you can see, 12,49

This addon is....amazing. Thanks for sharing!

Also, yall need to be selling those snow globe cards on the Steam market if you weren't doing it yesterday. The prices are pretty stable for now at ~$.50/card. I was unloading them at $.70-.80 yesterday. I'd been saving up hundreds of cards since August to turn into badges and got in on the ground floor of the snow globe market yesterday, made a little over $75 off of them in 2 hours. I've made another probably $10-$15 on selling emoticons and backgrounds and items from the badge crafting.
Also, fun fact, if you list or sell more than 200 items in a calendar year on the Steam market, Steam starts asking for your tax information to put on file for the IRS (or your country's tax department).

This addon...would be kind of cool if the FF version weren't missing half or more of the features and also broken on top of that. They seem to be largely ignoring it in favor of the Chrome version.

I have yet to purchase anything from the sale, plenty of my wishlist is on normal sale but waiting for it on flash sales. I am actually amazed at my self control this time around so far that I have not had any impulse buys of...oh this game is only $2.

11 Yrs♥$✓#
Dozens of things on my wishlist are on sale, but I've only gotten a few super-cheap things, mostly not from Steam itself. I keep being disappointed by things not getting cheaper more quickly and by Steam being more expensive than not-Steam. I don't really know why though. I have plenty to keep me busy already. It's not like the others going on sale and me owning them will somehow give me the time to play them all.

With the 180+ games still in my backlog, I vowed to avoid these ridiculous seasonal sales. But do I?
No.
I keep finding myself drawn to Steam, Gog & Humble Bundle and usually end up buying something I'll probably never get round to playing! I promise myself to only get stuff I really want to play and that have been on my wishlist since release, but always get tempted by the complete bargains. My other 'problem' is buying cheap games I've played previously on other systems, and ones that I own already but that I don't have on Steam... all end up gathering digital dust.
So far the major wishlist items I've picked up are Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider (2013) and Mars: War Logs, but I also gave in to the temptation to buy Max Payne 3 and Hard Reset because they were so damned cheap.

As Schopenhauer said, "Buying books would be a good thing if one could also buy the time to read them in." Different medium, same old problem. Heh.

I think the only things that would make me jump right now would be amazing prices on The Wolf Among Us, Walking Dead Ssn 2 (definitely not gonna happen), or Skyrim Legendary Edition. Just spent $100 to record a song with my band, so I'm just watching the sales fly by while my wallet cries.

I've been good and not bought anything in the recent sales... I made a rather big mistake when setting up my backlog, in that I set a budget of about £5 per game thinking it was a good cut off for getting a good deal, unfortunately the deals met that criteria quicker than I was completing games, so I built up a backlog of games that I had bought and with some are quite a while off playing, also I have been burnt by other deals coming along that have made them even cheaper.
So have basically promised myself to wait until at least April before buying any more, to allow me to get a fair chunk out of the way. There have been so many deals that have tempted me, ones like System Shock 2 for £1.21 (which would jump up to the top of my backlog), but have held off, because that (and any others that are cheap and will be played sooner) will potentially push other games back that may also end up in a cheaper sale (or humble bundle).
Thanks to the extension that Farzeer posted (which is brilliant), I have come across isthereanydeal.com which allows me to see (and put into practice come ~April time) whether a deal really is a good deal for certain games that crop up. :)

The most cost-efficient way I ever found to record was to have one of the band members be a music major so you could have free access to the recording facilities at their school. That way you don't have to buy any equipment yourself or pay for studio time, which is nice. It does end up costing in terms of extra time spent doing it all yourself, and it doesn't necessarily come out quite as well, but it is at least free. That's what we did before everyone had real jobs, and then after that it wasn't too big of a deal anymore, and now even though people can afford to set up their own studios in their basements, no one has time for stuff like that anymore. Hold on while I stare wistfully across the room at my bass. Ok, the moment has passed.
I did get Borderlands 2 GOTY, because I've been waiting for that for a while. That's the only non-trivial thing I've gotten from Steam or anywhere else this month. But speaking of trivial purchases, I grabbed Quantum Conundrum and the DLC for a dollar, because, well...I'd buy that for a dollar. Glad I held off on that for so long.

Just saw it and caught my interest xD i am talking about the RPG MAKER VX it looks really cool and would be awesome to use my ideias and storys and create my own game *.*

So...I kind of just went through my entire friends list and gifted Super Hexagon to everyone on it. Well, until so many 29 cent charges in such a small period of time showed up as suspicious activity on the card I was using, so unless I bother sorting that out in time, the end of the alphabet kind of got screwed over on that one (edit: mission accomplished). Heh.
EVERYBODY SUPER HEXAGON

RPG Maker VX is really good I used to a lot in fact I have been using RPG Maker since XP and earlier. The only issue is not being able to sell your game like on Steam or other places. I mean you could sell your game but its really rare only game I know done with a RPG Maker Engine is To the Moon and that's on Steam. But that game is different from a lot of other games. Most people who make games with RPG Maker is a RPG game that's been done already. I also only recommend you to use it a lot if you do end up purchasing it because if you don't use it often you may end up forgetting some things you learnt and will have to learn it a second time which just kills time.
