Review for Bowser's Fury as I already completed 3D World on the Wii UPretty fun but the funny thing is that the main aspect of fighting Bowser in his Giga form and him rising from the black goop the game is designed around actually breaks up the gameplay quite a bit
There are times when you just want to play the course or objective for the cat shine but Bowser shooting fire blasts gets in the way and it can be quite annoying to deal with
Also, the shines regarding blasting the fury blocks requiring bowser's flame breath and the lucky shines which only spawn in when Bowser is in Giga form feel like padding to the otherwise really fun shines scattered around Lake Lapcat
It's a fun small expansion which could be a tease of the future of 3D Mario games to come post Odyssey

The Bowser's Fury game featured in this port as bonus content takes assets, enemies and mechanics from the base version of Super Mario 3D World and scatters them throughout a fairly large, interconnected map scattered throughout a number of small islands. It is essentially a collection of bonus 3D World levels in a very large Super Mario Odyssey kingdom. Unfortunately, this is the worst of both worlds, as the platforming challenges tend to be shorter and slighter than a level in the actual game, and the open world component serves no purpose (outside the boss sequences) other than to create unnecessary downtime travelling between the actually interesting parts. Almost no interesting content ever occurs in the waters surrounding each island, and there's little in the way of meaningful/rewarding exploration to be found. The game will occasionally derail itself into a protracted spectacle fight against a giant version of Bowser, who can attack the player whilst in the middle of a platforming challenge and complicate the arrangements further. This is a fun setpiece the first few times, but it occurs way too much with too little variation, and since the game hides collectables in spots that can only be reached during these segments, it eventually leads to a lot of waiting around or aimless idling waiting for Bowser to trigger so you can actually reach the star you want.
Though a handful of control changes have been made to speed Mario up and make him feel better to move overall, there's no getting around the fact that 3D World makes a very poor foundation to build an exploration based game upon. Mario's movement feels a little too binary for it to be very fun to scale the various high rises the game throws at you, and the game can't do much to design around the temporary powerups, which often trivialize the game's intended challenges.

Super Mario 3D World - 85%An elite multiplayer game, especially with kids. Like most Mario games these days it's easy to beat. Not quite as innovative as others in the series.

Very well made, but, after an hour, finishing it felt like a chore. Bowser is the consummate troll, showing up every so often just to piss you off during your platforming quests. Much too easy. Difficulty comes more in the form of annoyance than test of skill. Oh and Plessy The Dinosaur is such ass and I hope he gets a papercut.

Super Mario 3D World perfects the foundation laid by Mario 3D Land. The well-designed, short levels are always inviting and keep you coming back for more. Bowser's Fury is a fantastic addition, extending the adventure and adding even more fun. I highly recommend this game.

I found what I dislike with the "Mario 3D" Land/World: the non-precise gameplay. To me, 2D Mario are all about precise platforming. 3DWorld tries to convey this feeling, but just fails and leads to imprecise platforming, and frustrating moments. Moreover, the camera is a real nightmare to help gauge the distance for jumping in specific situations. Overall it was an okay game, where the creativity is more linked to visual ideas than anything else. A bit poor, if you ask me. It would have been a 60/65% max without Bowser's Fury (BF).
BF was much more convincing. It is a very good idea to experiment in a remake with new things, which work much more. Goodbye imprecise platforming, and hello fun, constrained and short openworld (and I mean it in the most positive way possible). It recycles all technical elements of 3DWorld, but make them in context in a more interesting and convincing way. Also, free the camera and have a "real" 3D Mario was the best idea they could bring to the table. It just improves the readability of the action and platforming and is much less frustrating to play. However, the game falls in the shortcomings of Odyssey: too much "stars" to get. In the context of a little extension, it plays in favour of of adding more playtime, but I hope that for a full game (if Nintendo goes this route), they go back to less but more meaningful stars.

I have really mixed feelings about this game. On one hand I really enjoyed the cat power up, the bowser fury mini game, the music and the level design. On the other hand I felt like the game just kept dragging on. You would think that more levels in a mario game would be better, but there's like six secret worlds and each one has to be unlocked by find star coins. So, you have to keep replaying levels in order to find them. It's gets very tedious.Updated 2.5 Months Ago

Mario 3D World is an incredible game. It's been a few years since I beat it, so I won't be able to get into too much detail. I mostly played it in multiplayer, and it works extremely well. It feels like a perfect transition from the traditional 2D Mario style of game into 3D. The Cat powerup is extremely fun to use, and a lot of the level and enemy designs are creative and enjoyable. Having Peach and Rosalina (the best Mario character) as playable characters and giving each character their own special movement variations is spectacular. The only small complaint I have is that the game drags on for just a little too long, the 4 post-game worlds just seem like too much. Now for Bowser's Fury, which I beat just barely. Bowser's Fury is fantastic. It is extremely original and new, there is no other Mario game like it. it is an incredibly big and interesting twist on traditional 3D Marios similar to Mario 64 and Sunshine. Putting the entire game into 1 map sounds a little lame, but it is very well executed. It isn't a long game by any means, it is a (kind of?) DLC after all, but I don't think putting everything into 1 map brought it down at all. I also love how the physics from the base game was kept, it does not have traditional 3D Mario physics which honestly works pretty well. Bowser's constant presence in the game gives a slight sense of urgency and time management, but not too much. The boss fights are mostly great, the scale makes them feel epic (the final phase of the final fight is just a little annoying though). The island designs are all interesting and unique as well, and there are very few overly-cryptic Cat Shines, unlike most other 3D Mario games.

I have to distinguish between the base game and Bowser's Fury. The base game is a collection of good ideas, but it has a huge flaw: it doesn't know whether it's a 3D Mario or a 2D Mario. The precision required to land on enemies ad platform is on the same high level of the 2D games, but the movement and the air control are not as sharp as in the other 2D Marios; furthermore, the handling of the camera doesn't help at all: having a fixed camera made it so that too many times I missed an enemy by an inch and it hit me (and I cosider myself a veteran Mario player, having played almost all the games in the main series). If it was for the base game, the review score would've been very much lower.
Bowser's Fury on the other hand is really good, having completely embraced the 3D Mario essence. It feels like a big Odyssey world, with a lot of clever and fun ideas. I'm really disappointed though with the technical side, being it completely unplayable in handheld mode and very unstable in docked mode.
In both games the OSTs were really good.

Updated 5 Months Ago

3D World is not the best Mario Game, not even close, but it deserves more love. It's fun, well crafted, and it offers a good compromise between 2D and 3D Marios. Onlys cons : too easy, and too close to 3D Land.Bowser's Fury, on the other hand, is praised from being full 3D and different and open-world and everything. But unlike many, it's nothing more than a nice bonus game/interesting experiment for me. Too short to last, fun for sure, but I don't really see the gain in having an open-world Mario at this point.

Short review prior to playing post game worlds and Bowser's FurySuper Mario 3D World is a best in class game. Even 10 years after release, it's a timeless modern classic that let Nintendo stretch their muscles and exercise their multi decade long experience with platformers. Despite its reputation as the most tame "3D Mario" game, it's a title I'd wholeheartedly recommend to absolutely anyone, whether they're fans of the genre or not. It's inventive, colourful and revolutionary, in its own way. It brought 2D platforming principles into the three dimensional space, it brought brand new power-ups like the Cat Suit and Double Cherries. It even brought new stage objects like the clear pipes. It's a wonderfully presented and often understated entry in the series, but it's a gleeful experience that shouldn't be ignored.
So, all I can ask is that you do the following:
GO OUT AND BUY A COPY OF SUPER MARIO 3D WORLD PLUS BOWSER'S FURY ON YOUR NINTENDO SWITCH.
Edit after completing Bowser's Fury
I feel even more positive on this game package after playing Bowser's Fury, which, even with its 3D World aesthetic, is very much in style of Odyssey's collectathon. The latter of which being my favourite Mario game full stop, so it's no surprise I loved this bizarre 5 hour long expansion. Infact, it even bests Odyssey in one huge way, the seemingless transition into a (slightly) bigger, interconnected open world. In practice, well, it's not quite that seamless, as the long loading screens have become a bit of a running joke to many, but it proves that Mario as a series can go in this direction and commit to it fully on a system with more power. If the next 3D title is in this fashion, I'd be very happy, especially if it kept some elements of the weird Kaiju fights that blew me away the first time and even the last.
It's a bit of a shocking move from the same Nintendo who deemed Pikmin 3 and DKC:TF not worthy of anything but basic ports. But, in a sense, Mario is a long seller and they know the easiest way to get people to buy it again is to add big kitty boss fights.
Did I forget to say I loved it? Because I did. That's all folks, I'm retaining my original rating and reminding you to:
GO OUT AND BUY A COPY OF SUPER MARIO 3D WORLD PLUS BOWSER'S FURY ON YOUR NINTENDO SWITCH.
9/10.

Anyone who played 3D World back on the Wii U know that it is a great game. I don't like it as much as the other 3D Mario games like Odyssey and Galaxy, but it's still a great time for solo players and groups. I personally have always felt that the level designs of these games are a bit restrictive with the start to finish type of level, which is why I enjoy Odyssey more, but that's more of a personal preference thing than an actual problem with the game. The difficulty has a good range, with Champion's Road being the hardest level of any baseline Mario game in my opinion, and the music is great. It's hard to say too much since it's a port, but Bowser's Fury is definitely the best part of the game. It's basically a bigger Odyssey world but with 3D World gameplay, and it is absolutely great. My only real complain about that part is that it's too short, but if the next Super Mario game is taking that type of approach, we are going to be in for a real treat once that eventually releases.Updated 6 Months Ago

3D World: Great fun game, you don't have to like Mario to enjoy this game, tight controls, shit story, great levels. Better with friends and family, guaranteed. The fact that you no longer have to finish each level with all the characters to reach the really difficult final levels is a positive in my book.Bowser's Fury is an open world Mario game, once again great fun, shit story and great levels! When this game came out, everyone got angry. I could see why at the time, something like this coming off of the classic super mario Galaxy 1 & 2 did seem underwhelming. And while this game might not be as those games were, it still provided a wonderful experience to go through. And now that we have odyssey, its hard not to just love this game. It presents itself like a 2D game, with shorter levels and flagpoles to get. There are lots of memorable levels in here with amazing ideas, but there are also a lot of forgettable levels. I would say one main redeeming factor however is the multiplayer. Screwing over your friends is fun in 2D but the extra dimension allows for so much more creativity. Another amazing addition to this switch release is bowsers fury, Which I would say was a prefect experience through and through. Combining the best of Odyssey and 3D world into a nice little package.Updated 7 Months Ago

Bowser's Fury scratched my open-world game itch, but the formula doesn't lend itself as good to a Mario game as it does for a Zelda one.Pros:
+ Cute art-direction (it's a given for a Mario game)
+ The movement is perfect. Nintendo knows how to do platforming well
+ I enjoyed the exploration and minimal paternalism from the Bowser Jr.
+ It's not overwhelming and kinda easy to get 100% (which I was never able to accomplish in previous Mario games)
+ Kaiju!
Cons:
- The open world feels kinda small and underpopulated. More like an extended level than the actual place. Maybe I'm spoiled by Assassin's Creed games.
- The 100% ending is anticlimactic

Mario 3D World: I love both 2D and 3D Mario games, but I found this 2.5D variation with the fixed camera positioning very frustrating. It was often difficult for me to interact accurately within the perspective -- finding it difficult to discern when I was underneath a block or to position myself to land on the intended platform. There were some neat and fun ideas (I particularly enjoyed the Capt. Toad levels), but I had such a hard time with the perspective that I found myself wanting the game to just end. Brower's Fury: After the frustration of 3D World, I was afraid that I didn't like Mario games anymore. However, once I switched over to Browser's Fury, I was reminded why I like 3D Mario. I love the movement and that you're constantly being rewarded for your curiosity in exploring the world. The open-world format worked well. Even after defeating Browser, I continued searching for more Sunshines. The game was too short!

Dragged down by Bowser's Fury. I didn't enjoy it at all: Bowser's fury isn't as variable and fun as basic 3d World and isn't as innovative and witty in terms of collectibles as Odyssey. The main game is as good as always, sped up by like 15-20% though, so it becomes rather tricky sometimes due to areas aren't being designed around bigger movement speed. Score: 87% Grade: B+Summary: A super fun Mario playground, with the incredible polish and level design for which Nintendo is still the gold standard. Not as much depth as some Mario games, but still delivers plenty of enjoyment, and is great for all age ranges and skill levels.
NOTE: This is a review for both Super Mario 3D World AND Bowser’s Fury, as they are separate games included in one package.
+ Strengths +
-Animation/Modeling: Full of character, charm, and loads of variety. Even small plants aren’t neglected.
-Length: The minimum requirements to beat are easy, whereas getting all stars and cat-shines is difficult. So it’s just right for whatever your playstyle is.
-Level Design: Creative, unique, mind-boggling, funny, and a stunning amount of variety!
-Sound Design: Crisp and copious audio cues as varied and charming as the animations.
= Mixed Bag =
-Multiplayer: 3D World co-op exists, and I applaud the attempt to keep local co-op going, but it isn’t that well implemented. It’s just not designed for it. BUT Bowser’s Fury is better, if someone wants to play with you as an assistant, as Bowser Jr. is immune to damage and can be quite helpful without any responsibility.
- Weaknesses -
Where is Yoshi? Plessy is a dopey, less interesting stand-in who’s also a dinosaur. It makes no sense.

A super fun hint of what's hopefully to come in 3D Mario that masterfully meshes the sandbox and course clear style 3D Mario games. My primary issue is the namesake of the game. The rain storms and stuff just kept getting in the way and I wanted nothing to do with it.The controls are the same as 3D World as opposed to Odyssey, in that you still need to hold down the sprint button. I don't mind this in 3D Land and 3D World as the camera is largely fixed and odes not need to move. But holding down sprint while also moving the camera is pretty impossible. Persona 5, Dragon Quest XI, and Genshin Impact all have dashes and sprints but in those games, holding down R(1)/ZR(R2) is all you need, making camera movement easy.

Grafica ok-ish.

Total score between the two games is a strong 9. I will break down my thoughts for both individually:3D world:
pros
+ huge level variety and fun challenges
+ plenty of replay value
+ colorful and crisp visuals
+ great music
cons
- jumping and momentum sometimes feel a bit too slippery
- too many autoscroller levels for my liking
Bowser's Fury:
pros
+ a fresh take on the mario formula, with a large open world broken up into smaller islands that act as their own individual levels
+ once again, a large variety of challenges and level designs
+ colorful and vibrant visuals
+ great new music
+ exciting boss battles
cons

This game is quite short given its cost; it took me 6h 30m to mainline 3D World, and another 3h 35m to mainline Bowser's Fury. Perhaps that is a blessing, because while the overall experience of playing the game is extremely polished and very aesthetically appealing, I did not feel that there was any meaning to the game play. Had the experience been much longer, I think it would have become very dull. I realize that this is a "kid's game", but there are undoubtedly ways that this could have been done better. Look at Pixar movies for example - they are very appealing to kids and are certainly marketed as "kid's movies", but there are inclusions that make the experience also very enjoyable for adults. In my opinion, both games in this package feel like "kid's games", and nothing more; a simple hallow shell in a happy Mario wrapper.Updated 9.5 Months Ago
