Warning : in about 35 years of playing video games, mostly RPGs and tactical games, this is one of the hardest I have ever played. You *will* fail some fights the first time, as you will have to discover strategies and some "puzzles" so-to-speak (traps on maps, etc.). That said, I always succeeded my second attempt much more easily. There is a sweet Retry button, which makes the pain sting less. Still, if you do not feel like getting kicked brutally between the legs while playing a game, I really do not recommend you start this game. It is important for your enjoyment and frustration management that you know this in advance.
In the final stage of Chapter 2 (out of 5 chapters), I was considering giving up; which I generally do not. And that is after spending hours viewing guides and videos to make my character builds decent. But builds do not cut it: you need to try, fail, and find a new tactic. It turned out the final fight of Chapter 2 was actually easy once you understand the "puzzle".

Blackguards is pretty standard a pretty standard affair for an SRPG and that's not necessarily a bad thing. What IS a bad thing is the BS hit percentage. After missing your first handful of 95% hit chances you'll realize just how frequently it happens and how frustrating it is. I'm sure there's some logical explanation like the enemies dodge chance but that's never explained or shown to you. On the plus side, there's a huge variety of maps so the battlegrounds never feel stale, unlike some other SRPGs I've played.Updated 10 Years Ago

I wish that Blackguards' character progression system wasn't such a mess, because if it worked, I'd be delighted to recommend the entire low-fantasy role-playing package without hesitation. But character development is such an important and defining part of any RPG that this cluttered and confusing system has a big impact on what is otherwise an excellent tactical game with well-designed battlefields.Updated 10.5 Years Ago
