Updated 1.5 Weeks Ago

Given the hype surrounding this game, it's an understatement to say I'm disappointed. Haven probably tells a sweet love story and a beautiful message (I personally find them cheesy as possible, it's basically Saga comics stripped from controverse, fantasy and colorful characters), but the truth is, if you don't invest in this narrative aspect, your playthrough's gonna be very, very boring. Because Haven, with all due respect to its numerous fans, is not what I would call a good game - not even a correct one. Controls are at best decent, camera is bad, pacing is awful... you spend half the time wandering around and around with absolutely no purpose. To be brutally honest, the premise is so boring that I've considered retiring after less than an hour. Obviously, I should have followed my first instinct instead of persevering just because I heard it was soooooo beautiful and moving...Updated 2 Weeks Ago

Haven's story of star-crossed lovers fighting for freedom rescues an otherwise average adventure game, with cobbled-together mechanics to support its quasi-RPG status. It's heavy on dialogue, chock full of scripted elements and has a tight yet admittedly basic loop where you eat, fight, flirt and fly within the fictional solace of Source. I have to say, I wasn't all that engaged for most of the time I spent with Haven; But a vague interest in the possibility of an optimistic end for our lovers, Yu and Kay, saw me through. Tied together by an empathetic performance from their respective VAs, their story is emotional, intimate and a source of constant joy - the chemistry between them emanates from the screen.
So by the end, whichever conclusion you choose (or maybe even both like I did) you will likely be crushed that the journey is over as soon as it finally hits its stride. You'll miss the times spent with our pair, who have become painfully familiar in just a few hours.
Inspiring, but basic. Ambitious but often falls short. It is not a game without flaws, but the story it tells is worth sticking around for.
7/10.
(Played on Steam Deck OLED at 800p60fps using High settings, with 11-15w total power draw and 3-4hrs of battery life.)

Updated 5.5 Months Ago

It says it's easy to play, but feels really complicated. I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm just kind of winging it. As far as story goes, it's a basic utopian science fiction romance. It's cute, has a great soundtrack, and the characters are really likeable, but it feels like the story just stops at their relationship and I wish it explained more of the world lore.Updated 6 Months Ago

I LOOOOVE the 2D art on this game, it's so pretty. I'm playing with both of them as girls and I've been loving their voice-acting. The story is so good and the gameplay is fun (I'm just kinda bad with the controls haha), can't wait to see how it endsUpdated 8.5 Months Ago

The +:Co-op really well integrated and represented, a really great game to play as a couple, whether in terms of gameplay or history.
Really very cute and pleasant story to follow, we want to see where our little couple will go and how their adventure will end (does it really end?).
With the gameplay there is a whole complicity that has been created at the level of the characters and their interactions, small gestures or even ways of playing/moving that immerse us in their world. They can also annoy each other or shoot each other in the paws to get knocked off, which is great fun for starting IRL brawls.
Lots of little challenges everywhere, whether it's a kind of parkour by following hidden "flow threads" or by mastering slippages to reach a point of view or validate a small secondary objective.
The quirky humor and the sensual aspect at times which is a big plus for me, it's an aspect that I really liked about the game and which adds a very pleasant touch of life.
The fights that are really very well done, very satisfying to do in coop. A character will be able to protect the other who is charging his attack for example, it adds a complicity and a very pleasant and well done combat management.
The MUSIC which is soooo good, I really became a fan of the OST...
The characters have a complete and sought-after personality, I particularly appreciate that they didn't try to make the "perfect woman" or "the perfect man", and that both male and female they have their flaws and bad habits. Thanks to the devs for changing Yu's behavior from the beta...
The ~:
The level design which is extremely cute is interesting for my taste, but also not very varied. We will have the opportunity to go around many islands, but which in the end have nothing special between them (same size, same landscape, often similar relief...).
The design of the game is not beautiful but I like it a lot, I find it warm and pleasant. Small flat on the models of the characters in the cutscenes of the ship, I really don't find them well done, they are very "smooth" and not very beautiful...
Quite special aspect of having a mixture of 2D and 3D for the cinematics but in the end we liked it!
The -:
The cameraaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Very complicated to control, it has an annoying tendency to walk around and get into awkward places that bother us more than anything else.
Threads that are too present in places and where we don't know which one leads where. You can easily find yourself having to make 10 round trips to find the right path, which is quite tiring.
In co-op, when moving on a thread, the following player can be slightly controllable but nothing more. We've had a lot of times when this character either got stuck or fell off the thread, which makes it quite painful. It can also be difficult to discern the thread from the character's trace at times.
Big lack of tutorials for the fights... We understood at the end of the game the principle of charged attacks and heals by looking at the list of achievements (while we didn't skip anything). The same goes for the acceleration of the animation, which was unwittingly discovered.
Remarks:
Game that I do not recommend for "non-gamer" people, it still has a real video game aspect that is a bit complicated and will not really suit someone who hardly plays. I say this thinking of friends who wanted to do it with their partner and who had a lot of trouble advancing in the game and in particular managing the camera at the same time as the game.
In summary:
Game that I really highly recommend, it was a big favorite! I advise in particular to do it with your spouse, it is really ideal for this case and will make you both have a great time on a great game.

A visual novel with dull, repetitive gameplay sections in-between. I enjoyed most of the writing, but the characters talk TOO much as you are exploring and as time went on the conversations became less interesting. Combat felt unfinished with the same strategy every fight. Areas felt samey and awkward to traverse. Watched the rest after losing interest and was disappointed.Updated 1.5 Years Ago

Cool idea, poor executionChoices you make for each character have to be chosen by both players which is weird
Combat doesn't really need to be in the game
Biggest coomer couple in gaming hands down
Pacing is not good, early on it feels super slow and by the end way too fast
Could have way more diverse dialogue since most of the game is spent on it
Camera and controls feel weird in a lot of moments since 2 players are on screen, plus you can't turn the camera while moving unless you drift, which leads to jank camera movement and breaks the flow of moving around sometimes
Narrative setup had some potential but doesn't do much with it
The whole thing about the Apiary (where they come/fled from) isn't developed that much and the other characters don't really impact the story

finally finished this damn game. it's weird that the game this company did after fury is lacking so much in gameplay, is super unfocused and just way too long and drab. There are a few mechanics added in the end of the game that never get used. This game really wants you to play in coop (i did) but then is supposed to be played by mostly one person. The camera is so fucking awfulWhat a huge dissapointment.
The game is worse at the beginning as there is very little drama and almost nothing to do. It gets a bit better later. Music is still a strongsuit with these guys, not as action packed but still filled with nice tunes, VO is also pretty great.
They have 2 characters in this game, with pretty good character design, yet they still manage to make the models look awful. Like cheap plastic mold toys.
The ending is also pretty shit, clearly having potential to do some neat gameplay tricks but instead focusing on badly done cinematics.

Surprisingly good! The mechanics are well thought out both in combat and exploration, and I didn't expect something so simple to work so well (after the wild ride that was Furi it's even more incredible for the devs to do so well on a game that is so different). The characters are endearing, their conversations are well written and even thought provoking at times. The only downside is that it makes me wish I had a girlfriend to play this withUpdated 2.5 Years Ago

A primarily story-based game, the chemistry between Kay and Yu (the main characters, who are a couple) is one of the best I've seen in gaming in a long time, and probably carries the game alone from just that. But there are some caveats. The core gameplay is essentially roaming around in search of parts to fix the pair's ship. There is a light hunger as well as RPG battle element embedded, which necessitates additional time and attention. The battles are designed for an interesting co-op experience (which you can play alone in), and reminds me of RPGs like Final Fantasy.
The environment is nice to look at, but it doesn't take long to become a familiar sight. Once you're an hour or two into the game, you'll likely try to speed through to progress the story. At some point in time, you'll get rather tired of the same monotonous gameplay that persists throughout. Still, the music is good, the voice acting is great, and the dialogue is brilliant (albeit rated M for Mature). It is worth a play for the character interaction alone, or as something to play with your boy or girlfriend, but it isn't an incredibly enthralling experience.

It's impossible to separate the different aspects of Haven; the music, art style, graphics are beautiful and compliment the story perfectly. The game tells you from the beginning that this is not a challenging game. However as Furi's difficulty ties directly to the story, Haven's easy to grasp gameplay mechanics are related to it as well. In this case the fact that the gameplay particularly challenging, speaks directly to how Yu and Kay feel in the relationship, when you are right for each other nothing is impossible, but it's no breeze either. I enjoyed my time with the game thoroughly, and enjoyed getting lost in a lovely relationship between two people fighting for freedom.
My only gripes with this particular game is that I would have welcomed more depth in terms of it's gameplay, both the movement and the combat could have been enhanced ever so slightly so players craving a challenge could sink their teeth into some optional content (available only to those who will go to that length), however I do think that the fact that this is not present in the game was intentional since it might not relate to the core aspects of the story.

Such a perfect couple. These two literal star-crossed lovers take refuge on a deserted planet after fleeing the authoritarian world they both called home. With The Matchmaker mandating that every individual be paired with a 'suitable' partner, people are guaranteed a stable marriage, while sacrificing the burning passion that is love. Yu and Kay, our protagonists, completely and utterly embody this love, where they demonstrate time and again their unconditional acceptance and yearning for one another. This is something their old world government, the Apiary, completely dismisses, believing that top-down security ought to be valued over the chaotic and uncertain nature of romance. Yu and Kay deepen their already iron-clad bond as they fight the legions of armored death machines sent to neutralize them by the Apiary, with the mechanics of the game allowing the player(s) to demonstrate their conviction by timed attacks, mutual shielding, and the ability to bring the other back from the brink of death with coordinated controls. This game made me yearn for someone who love me as much as Yu loves Kay. Put simply, tfw no gf. ;-;

A true "Meh" game - beautiful art direction and dialogue hampered by lack of gameplay options and repetitivenessI was often on the verge of dropping the game, but it somehow haunted me.
It can be downright beautiful, mellow and relaxing.
The art style is often gorgeous, and the music itself is good.
However, it all starts to bore after a while because you do the same things all the time, the same couple of tracks are on repeat and begin to grind your nerves.
The combat is interesting at first, but it really bugged me later on.
You have to remember exactly what to do with the different enemies, or you will fail.
It's not clear why some attacks are being paused until the enemies hit you first.
In the end I'm still not sure if I missed any hints or tips regarding the combat, as it was simply confusing till the end, and I actually opted to avoid combat where I could.
The loading and saving pauses are way too long for a game of this caliber and constantly take you out of the experience.
That being said, I was always drawn back as the "feel" of the game and the downright great characters of Yu and Kay never left my mind.
Kudos to the writers, their banter hit the spot, and while I wouldn't call it realistic per se it fit the tone and setting of the game.
