Damn. This was a definite step up in terms of level design, and artwork. The series was really pushing the limits of the NES hardware.I still think 2 has the best music though.

Mega Man 3 should have been a disaster (it isn't totally)A barren title screen and a banging soundtrack. Yep, this game was unfinished. The robot master stages were largely very successful, possibly my favorites in the series, and definitely my favorite soundtrack. Doc Robot, though. The uses of Rush should have been cool, but he unfortuantely had a terrible segment to shine. I don't get the point of these stages. And then the Wily stages are easy and feel unfinished. If only more effort had been put into them instead of revisiting stages...

I really did enjoy this game more than I expected. It's one of the more memorable Mega Man games and that's mostly cause I find the soundtrack to be one of the best in the series. Outside of that the gameplay is fun...until you get to the endgame. The Doc Robot filler is terrible and really bogs down the game. Along with a few crappy weapons , it really stops this game from being better in my eyes.Updated 2.5 Months Ago

Not as crazy imaginative than Mega Man 2, but MM3 is more than a decent follow up. It adds quality of life without killing the challenge and has a bunch of wonderful levels and delightful music. Must play.Updated 5 Months Ago

I beat Mega Man 3. Torn on this one. Their is quite a lot of bullshit but it feels like they're way more generous with the 1UPs and E Tanks. It's also leans more on knowing the tricks to each boss more than MM2. Definitely better than MM1 but more uneven and rough in spots than 2.I dug how much game they tried to squeeze into a NES cart at the time. Much like Pokemon GS there's a point where you essentially have to beat all the bosses from MM2. Feels like they really thought this was going to be the final game of the series in retrospect. Then they made approximately 20 more

I've played Mega Man 3 before a few years ago, so I did remember the boss order and weaknesses somewhat for this playthrough. I did play through the game once with save states to remind myself of how to play, that playthrough took 1:37, but then I played again with no save states and I didn't have all that many deaths, got through the game in 2:25. I'm not as good at this game as I am at Mega Man II, but that game is hardly a challenge at all when you know the boss order.I'll stress first that NES games in general are usually too old school for me to get a whole lot of enjoyment out of. I started gaming when I was 9 in the N64 era, but I had often gone to friend's houses to play 16-bit games before getting my own system in '99. As a result, I am fond of 16 bit era games, but the majority of 8-bit era games feel too old and archaic for me to really enjoy. Most Mega Man games (not the first) are exceptions to this rule. They are well made enough for me to have a good time with them.
Another thing NES-era games are notorious for is their high difficulty. With games being so much smaller (NES games were usually half a megabite or less), games couldn't be made long. They were made difficult instead so that you would get your money's worth of play time out of retrying until you learned the game well enough to overcome it.
With that in mind, the Mega Man games are challenging on any playthrough but it's always the worst the first time, then on subsequent playthroughs they are quite manageable. I still had a few deaths and a continue or two, but all of those happened after getting through the first 8 master robot stages. So I feel pretty good about that.
The structure of the previous Mega Man games has had you fight the main robot stages, then go after Dr Wily. The Wily stage was always broken up into multiple parts, and right before Wily himself, you would refight the Robot Masters of the main stages again in a back to back Boss rush. In Mega Man 3, instead of going straight to Wily after the main stages, you play through remixed versions of the main stages, but instead of fighting the same robot masters again, they bring back the ones from Mega Man 2. You have to fight 2 per remixed stage, and there are 4 remixed stages. However, you don't get health from defeating them, making the stages tougher. These remixed stages feel like they're retreading old ground that was just covered. It isn't a great way to do things, just felt like busy work or padding, and I didn't like it.
As far as the rest of the stage designs, they're pretty solid. I think this one has some of the best NES music, and the visual design is better than Mega Man 1 or 2. It really shows how good the developers were getting at this point with their skill with the hardware. I have yet to play the rest of the series that came out after this one, so I can't compare it to anything but 1 or 2, but in some ways it's better than 2 and in other ways it falls short. Overall, it's a pretty good Mega Man experience and earns a solid 70/100, but by nature of it being on the NES, it's still quite limited as far as action platformers go, and not the type of game I'd take with me to a desert island.

Credit where credit is due: this is a very impressive game. It's cool to see how much more they were able to get out of the NES compared to Mega Man 1 and 2. However, most of my time with MM3 was frustration, with lots of unfair and unforgiving rooms and bosses that were completely unfun to figure out and muscle through. I also really did not appreciate how much they rehashed the boss fights in this game, and once I hit the ending I was more relieved that I wouldn't have to play the game more than anything.Updated 1 Year Ago

Played as part of the Mega Man Legacy Collection. In my memory I always thought Mega Man 3 was the best, but it's pretty clear that Mega Man 2 is actually the best, and I just kind of blend them together in my memory. This one is still great though, but it suffers from too much slowdown and repeating a whole bunch of enemies. Music is easily some of the best ever, though.Updated 1 Year Ago

Another NES Mega Man game. This one introduced sliding which is great for moving faster and damage boosting through tricky areas. Most of the robots seemed pretty forgettable except for Snake Man. I didn't really like how drawn out the levels were. It was surprise after surprise of when the game was actually going to end. The Yellow Devil makes another appearance, but he's much easier with the slide. Top Man's ability just makes you spin, so you usually end up taking a lot of damage while jumping at enemies. There's a surprising number of times you have to use it.
Honestly a pretty good entry if not a little lackluster.

Very good game in the Mega Man series, but it does have some issues with padding. The Doc Robots are very cool in concept, but ultimately make the game last longer through arbitrary difficulty, which is normal for an NES game, but Mega Man is usually one of the outliers of this design philosophy. The Doc Robots are honestly much harder than all of the Robot Masters in Mega Man 2. Overall though the game is very fun, and the new addition of the slide allowed for some newer interesting level design and movement. I'd recommend.Updated 1.5 Years Ago

Pros: Great game. A proper challenge. Lots of bosses (even Mega Man 2 bosses). Nice weapon selection plus extras. Could have given it a solid 8 on the soundtrack alone.Cons: Lag. No password save in Wiley's castle. A tad too long. And on a personal level, I didn't get any special feelings from the game perhaps because I have no nostalgia for it.
I recommend this to anyone that: wants a challenge; are getting into NES; looking for their first Mega Man game; or modern games wanting to satisfy their Cuphead itch.

While a mostly solid game, Mega Man 3 is a bit of a mixed bag to me, especially as a follow-up to the 2nd game. On one hand, the weapon selection and stages are some of the most distinct and well-realized within the entire classic series, while on the other hand, there exist plenty of flaws that are hard to ignore. While not as lop-sidedly difficult as the 1st game, there are moments in particular levels that are a bit stricter than one would anticipate, and the Doc Robot stages in the middle of the game are definitely unwarranted. Still, the game is an enjoyable one, yet not quite as solid as its predecessor.+ Well-defined and varied weapon selection
+ Controls refined even further, near-eliminating prior "slipperyness"
- Robot Master fights much stricter and have an isolated weakness order
- Doc Robot is too tough and unnecessarily pads out the game
- New mechanics, Rush/slide, feel a tad situational

A bit easier than the previous 2, but in my opinion it's a better game. Sliding is really fun and makes you feel like a pro when you slide to move everywhere. The weapons are unique and the bosses follow suit--to an extent. The only complaint I have is the lag. It's considerably laggier than 1 and 2; not enough to be a problem, but enough to be noticeable. Truly a great game.Updated 2 Years Ago

I honestly liked this one a fair amount, the visuals and music are good, and the gameplay adds enough with the slide and rush to improve upon the first two games. The robot masters are also quite memorable in this one, and alltogether I think this is a good mega man if 2 isn't around.Updated 2.5 Years Ago

Probably my favourite classic mega man game, the only downside - that pesky nes bug, when a lot of things on screen, game just start lagging. That's the reason why i give this game 7 out of 10, if not that i could probably rate that game even better than mega man 2, maybe i will play mm2 one day.Updated 3 Years Ago

Where previous Mega Man games laid the foundation for the game structure, Mega Man 3 lays more of the groundwork for the characters for the rest of the series. The introduction of Protoman and Rush, a brief mention of Roll. With this is more backstory for Mega Man (since we probably cant take the Worlds of Power MM2 book as canon). The robot masters are a bit more challenging than MM2, often taking less damage even from their weakness than previous games, and often being designed for using the new slide function. Where MM3 falls apart is the downright terrible and often obnoxious to use robot master weapons. Top Spin might be the worst enemy weapon in the history of Mega Man, even if it is an interesting idea.
The level design is generally harder than MM2 was, and the Wily Castle has too many segments that require the use of Rush modes just to advance in what feels like just a gating mechanism, but the game knows you have to have Rush modes by then.
Protoman is pretty cool and a neat addition. On the flip side, I could do without re-fighting MM2 enemies, which felt like padding.
One of the better Mega Man games, though not one of my personal favorites.

The third installment in the series and the Luigi of the series outshined by it's fame whore older brother Megaman 2. But, just like Luigi, I love it a LOT more than it's older brother (Hell this might be my favorite in the series but Mega man 9 is looking at me with the sex eyes). Megaman 3 added the slide which is an amazing feature and FINALLY removed Megamans momentum bullshit after he stops running making this game feel smooth as butter. Those alone are major improvements. But the main complaint I hear about this game mainly come from the remix stages and how they're bullshit. In terms of stage design the only bullshit remix stage is needle mans stage which has a massive chasm that if you don't do it in one clean shot it becomes literally impossible to progress unless you game over to give the chasm another shot which I admit is a major design blunder. In terms of difficulty I'd say it's a tougher Megaman that will require a bit of trial and error. For the most part however the game is rather fair practically the whole way through with the only really annoying part being the last little bit of spark mans stage. The music is balling as always with shadow mans theme being the obvious pick but this game also introduced Protomans iconic whistle.
I find the level design this time around to be superior to 2 in practically every way with my favorites being Gemini man and spark mans stage. Aside from my praise I still do have my gripes.
Flaw 1: The return of the Megaman 2 bosses in the remix stages were pretty sweet but some of them are WAY too strong. Even with weapon weaknesses they still take a ton of hits while hitting you like a freight train
Flaw 2: The weapons in this game do suck there's no sugarcoating it. The only weapon I really like in this game is magnet missile and shadow blade (inferior metal blade) but everything else kinda sucks. There's also strange inconsistencies with the boss weaknesses with three bosses being weak to the buster making some of the boss weapons practically useless.
Flaw 3: Because of the challenge of the remix stages, Wily's stages are a little bit too easy. They're also quite generous giving you a million E tanks.
All in all this game, to me this is the first TRUE step up from the original Megaman, how I wish more people showed this game more love.

Mega Man 3 is another great game in the long running mega man games. This time, things aren’t as simple as they were in Mega Man 2. The Boss battles are a little more challenging this time around and their weaknesses aren’t as clear. They are by far not super challenging but still can give you some trouble if you have a hard time recognizing their patterns. After defeating them, the Mega Man 2 bosses make a come back as you are forced to revisit 4 stages and take out two of the bosses per stage.
Not much is new this time around but the special weapons have now been changed into a companion you can call, Rush the dog. Also you can now slide a little on each stage. It’s a little difficult to get used to but with a little practice, you should be able to get it down.
I was a little let down by the final bosses on the Wiley stages. The yellow devil was a challenge and pretty fun to play, but the rest were not much of a challenge. The final Wiley boss was interesting but not as difficult as mega man 2s.
Still a great game and I still recommend everyone to play this one.

The first half of the game (before beating all 8 robot masters) is great, replaying 4 of them, and a couple of the wily stages are trash, but the boss rush and final boss are alright. Mega Man 2 used to be my long-time favorite of the original MM games -- I think 3 beats it this time round. The level design is much improved (and *gorgeous* for the NES), and the bosses felt a little more creative. I'll break with most and say I liked having all the bosses from MM2 show up before Wily's fortress. Love Snake Man's level and fight. :>
