As a Harry Potters world fan, I’ve been eagerly awaiting a truly excellent game set in the Wizarding World. Hogwarts Legacy finally delivers that magical experience. Here’s why:

- Stunning World Design: The open-world map perfectly captures the vibe of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. From the castle to Hogsmeade and the surrounding nature, everything is meticulously designed.
- Top-Notch Graphics: The visuals are breathtaking. Exploring iconic locations feels like stepping into the pages of J.K. Rowling’s books.
- Immersive Sound Design: The magical soundscape enhances the experience. Whether it’s casting spells or wandering the Forbidden Forest, the audio pulls you in.
- Engaging Story: While the plot has its holes (as most Harry Potter tales do), the characters are memorable. You’ll befriend classmates, uncover secrets, and face off against evil forces.
- Quests Galore: There’s never a dull moment. Side quests are fun, and there’s always something new to discover.
- Optimization: The game runs smoothly, which is a relief after some recent disappointments (cough Cyberpunk 2077 cough).
If you’re a Potterhead (or not), this game is a must-play. It’s like receiving that long-awaited Hogwarts letter. It’s baffling that Hogwarts Legacy wasn’t nominated in Games Awards. It outshines many other titles.
Once again, one of the best AAA games I’ve played in recent years!

I loved this game, it was spectacular! Everything from the story to the combat were so fun! The only issue was that on xbox one x there are a lot of loading screens between both main areas and every door features a 30s wait before you can go through.

Worth playing if you are a fan of Harry Potter or are new to open world RPGs. The combat system is good but the game is too easy even on hardest difficulty if you have decent experience in gaming. The world design is top notch just missing a little depth from character interactions to really bring it to life more. A good game that could have been amazing if it was better in a few different areas.

A good game, but marred with generic design choices and not enough player expression for a game that claims to be a truly open world Harry Potter experience. The moment to moment gameplay is good. Exploring is fun, combat is slick with a wide variety of spells to experiment and to play with at your own whim, and some of the main missions are generally a good time. The game falls flat with it's narrative, with the "chosen one" narrative running thin early onto the game. Granted the game needs to make you feel special, but the scope of the story takes away from the main attraction of the game, which is Hogwarts Castle. Splendidly recreated, the castle is an incredible area to explore, however the region surrounding the game excluding the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade is nothing special to write home about.
It's definitely a solid base that can be improved on in a sequel, however we'll be stuck with a game that is great, but falls just short of being a definitive experience that we were all expecting from this game.

Lots of warts, busywork and not enough legacy.

This game has a couple of good things going for it. The atmosphere, characters and world are all well crafted. The attention to detail is incredible in parts.

The gameplay however is where this game falters at times. While the magic system works well for the most part, the game presents you with a lot of the same enemies over the course of the game, which gets boring and tedious after 20+ hours. There is a skill tree keeping you motivated investing your talent points and the impact of improved or new skills can be felt.

The items you find in the world unfortunately feel very same-y, there’s so much stuff to pick up and none of it has meaningful stats. There is an upgrade system to items, but it’s hardly worth it, because not only are you constantly switching out gear, in order to upgrade, you have to constantly take care of magical creatures that provide you with necessary upgrade materials. Of course, you’ll have to find and catch those creatures in the open world first in order to pluck their feathers for upgrades.

What makes matters even worse is the nonsensical inventory management, only allowing for a set number of gear items, unless you upgrade by doing chores in the open world. As a matter of fact, a sizable part of the game is doing the same 7 or 8 chores over and over to unlock increments of quality of life improvements throughout your journey.

And yet, I still enjoyed some of my time with the game. The main and companion quests were interesting enough to follow and flying on a broomstick through the open world, exploring and finding secrets can be fun.

Here’s hoping the next game vastly improves gameplay and manages to tell a more engaging story.

15 hours of monotonous bland vanilla stuff, I couldn't take it anymore. The only advantage of the game is graphics, technically the game looks good even on Switch, but everything else, including art-design side of graphics - meh.
Honestly, I don't even want to delve deeper, the lowest rated game I've played, Harry Potter 7-1, gives a much more complete gaming experience compared to this set of assets. Rated "5" due to the fact that there are a lot of assets here, the game seems big, seems interesting, seems well thought out. I pity those who fell for this "seems", apparently such people lacked gaming experience or something else... Literally any other open-world game will do a better job of "open-world adventure", literally any game in the HP universe will do a better job of "plunge into the HP atmosphere", and if you need both "open-world" and "HP atmosphere", then Lego HP is a great choice, while it's better to just skip a mess called Hogwarts Legacy

Pros: there is no other game that captures the Wizarding World as well as this game. Customization is top notch, combat is fun surprisingly awesome, and the world is huge and dense. Even after all my time with the game there is still plenty of content (lots of it busy work tho), and is well worth the asking price. The story is also very good and I was into it the whole way. Even the side missions were very compelling and encourage you to explore the world they have put together. The quests also give you more control over the game, whether it’s expanding the Room of Requirement, to getting your own shop in Hogsmeade, side quests have plenty of value.

Cons: while this is very much an opinion, this is more action than RPG. A lot of the dialogue choices, in fact almost all of them except like two or three, actually mean anything. There were some bugs that made me reload a previous save because I couldn’t progress. And there is a lot of time in menus to sort through loot. It can break immersion.

Overall an awesome experience. If you’re a Harry Potter fan you need to get this game.

A very mediocre game. Too many collectibles, pretty boring side quests, and a main story that goes on too long for what it unravels. Some of the main story was very neat and well done and told. The relationship side quests were a definite step above the other side quests. Sebastian Sallow’s had a powerful few moments but wasn’t incredible overall. Natty and Poppy’s were okay. Hogwarts was fun to be in but had too much repetitive puzzles and didn’t have enough variety. Hogsmeade was also fun but didn’t blow my mind. The Highlands open world was the worst because of how much collectibles and repetitive tasks there were. It’s definitely a must for Harry Potter fans but it’s a pretty mediocre game overall

Story: 5
The main story is pretty boring and predictable, with one-dimensional villains. On the bright side, the storylines of your companions, especially Sebastian, are well-developed and interesting. Overall, the narrative feels like a missed opportunity, as it fails to really captivate or offer anything new.

Gameplay: 7
The gameplay is pretty good. Fighting with spells is dynamic and allows for some cool combos. Flying on the broom is challenging but nicely implemented and a welcome addition. However, the open world feels too big and unnecessary, leading to a lot of repetitive tasks like Merlin’s trials and countless caves that don’t offer much in terms of useful rewards. The game itself also isn’t very challenging, even on higher difficulty levels, and there’s a lack of enemy variety.

Music & Audio: 8
The music is very well done, sounding truly magical and fitting well with the tone and atmosphere of the game. It really enhances the overall experience and makes the world of magic and Hogwarts feel so immersive.

Design & Visuals: 9
Hogwarts is the best part of the game, recreated beautifully and truthfully from the books. Navigating Hogwarts is a delight, always offering something new to discover. Hogsmeade village is also beautiful with its shops and pubs. However, the map can be confusing, making it difficult to find your way to your destination in the castle.

Replayability: 6
You can replay the game mainly for the castle and its amazing atmosphere. There’s a decent amount of activities to do within Hogwarts, but the main story doesn’t offer much in terms of choices and remains the same on subsequent playthroughs. Since the story itself is lacking, replay value is limited.

Technical Issues & Bugs: 7
While the game runs smoothly for the most part, the large open world and repetitive tasks can sometimes lead to technical hiccups. The map’s confusing layout also adds to the frustration at times.

Overall Score: 6/10
Hogwarts Legacy is an amazing Harry Potter game but only an average game on its own. The recreation of Hogwarts and Hogsmeade is stunning and offers a lot of enjoyment, but the main story falls flat. The open world feels too big and leads to repetitive tasks, and the game isn’t very challenging. Despite these issues, it’s still worth playing for fans of the Harry Potter universe, as it offers a magical experience that captures the essence of the series.

The game itself is like a gift for fans of the Harry Potter universe. I dare say this is the most immersive and detailed work ever created for this world. The setting is very well done, and as its name suggests, Hogwarts is the main character of the game. The soundtracks are excellent and clearly inspired by John Williams, adding an extra touch to the immersion.

The gameplay was a pleasant surprise, being fluid with well-thought-out combat.

Overall, the team delivered a well-executed basic game, pleasing fans of the universe by adding depth and respecting the original work.

Negative Criticisms:

The game itself has some issues that make it seem like the developer chose to keep it simple and functional. Starting with the main quest's storyline, which I personally found very shallow and extremely repetitive (this is a recurring problem in the game). In my opinion, the side missions were much better, especially those of Sebastian, Poppy, Natty, and particularly the PlayStation exclusive one.

The level of challenge in the game also bothered me a bit. I played the entire game on the highest difficulty, and the only difference was that the enemies had more health. The mechanics are very repetitive and really do not present any challenge, with the only exception being the final boss.

A technical point that I’m not sure is fair to mention is that on the PlayStation 4, the load times are very long, averaging 1 minute.

About the Platinum Trophy:

This might be one of the most tedious platinum trophies I've ever earned. The game has many collectibles, and for me, this isn't a problem, but the lack of ways to track what is missing is irritating. More than that, the fact that there is no reward for collecting is very annoying, especially the Merlin challenges. Upon completion, there is no cutscene or reward.

I believe that even though it is tiresome, if completing significant milestones like the Merlin challenges or collecting all the demiguise statues, etc., had some reward, such as an addition to the story, it would be more enjoyable.

+Great setup for it’s combat with excellent selection of spells and a great juggling mechanic
+Excellent recreation of the Hogwarts castle and surrounding areas
+A good mix of activities to do with in the castle
-A overall rather pointless open world with the usual generic checklist of things to do
-Lack in variety of enemy types especially within the bosses
-Barely touches on the issues of the goblins where they are the main point of the story
Review
Hogwarts Legacy has a great base for it’s game with a strong combat system with a huge variety of spells which rewards creating long combos by juggling enemies with it’s different types of spells which can be split into 4 kinds: Control, Damage, Transfiguration and forbidden. Each have at least 4 different spells with different effects which can mixed and match in combat. This is wrapped up within an excellent recreation of the Hogwart castle, Hogsmeade and forbidden forest and with a good mix of activities and secret to find in each area which makes for a good variety of things to do within the game. Helped with the ability to build up your own area within the room of requirement.

While I enjoyed the main areas in the game which were based on the book series the new areas built for the game where generic and superfluous. They come of as unnecessary and the game should’ve kept to the only known areas and treat the rest of the game as a hub world. There is also a lack of variety in enemy types especially in the boss fights which end up generally being just reskins of generic beasts you fight. It’s finally not helped with it’s main story being about goblins but goblins play little part in the story whatsoever

I feel that ultimately Hogwarts Legacy is a well built game with a turn of interesting things to do let down by an unnecessary open world and it would’ve been better to make the game a Hub world instead of an open world and spent more time on a large variety of boss fights then what was given.

Hogwarts Legacy is a fascinating journey into the world of magic, brimming with the charm and allure of the Harry Potter universe. It's a game that will undoubtedly captivate both fans of the series and newcomers alike, thanks to its impressive array of features and meticulous attention to detail.

One of the standout features of Hogwarts Legacy is its fully voiced characters. This is an impressive feat for an open-world game and adds a rich layer of immersion. The combat system is another high point, offering a variety of spell loadouts that allow players to tailor their magical experience. Whether you're into explosive action or more strategic spellcasting, there's something here for everyone.

Easter eggs and references to Harry Potter lore are scattered throughout the game, making exploration a delight for fans. The side quests are more than mere fillers; they are engaging and add depth to the overall experience. And when it comes to the final boss fight, it's simply excellent – a thrilling climax to a magical adventure.

Character freedom is another area where Hogwarts Legacy shines. The game allows you to shape your protagonist's moral compass, even to the extent of learning and using the unforgivable curses. This level of choice adds a complex layer to gameplay and narrative alike.

The in-game map deserves a special mention – it's not just functional but sexy 🔥. A 3D map that players can rotate and zoom in and out of, it's a tool that’s both practical and visually stunning.

However, Hogwarts Legacy isn't without its flaws. There are several missed opportunities that could have elevated the game further. The sorting hat ceremony feels underdeveloped, with only two questions determining your house – a bit anticlimactic for such a pivotal moment in the Harry Potter universe. The absence of Quidditch is also a notable omission, and the house you choose doesn’t impact the game as much as one might expect. The house points system feels underutilized, and the common rooms are merely decorative.

The game’s lockpicking mechanism is static, missing an opportunity for a more engaging mini-game that evolves with your skills. As for the story, while it’s not bad, it doesn’t quite reach the heights of the rest of the game. It’s somewhat predictable, lacking the twists and turns that would be expected from a prequel to such a beloved series.

While it may have its shortcomings, the positives far outweigh the negatives, making it a memorable and enchanting experience. Its high level of detail, freedom of character, and overall polish make it a must-play for fans of the series and open-world adventure enthusiasts.

I knew nothing about Harry Potter going into this game and still came out enjoying it. I tried my hardest to be evil, but this game just wasn't having it. Even if I got the "bad ending", most of the playthrough has you be an antihero at best when it comes to being evil. So much for my Slytherin witch.

But it's a good game and flying around the worldspace was pretty fun. I enjoy the combat despite many saying it gets repetitive. My issue was more so that the world feels a bit bland and dry. It's very pretty and I like it, but I feel like there could've been more to do out there.

Score: 84

I am trans and did not mind playing this game since I separate the art from the person and the devs have nothing to do with JK.
